Anatomy of a Song

Two verses, a chorus and a bridge.
The simple anatomy of a song.
The lifespan of heart break and love live within these words.
Chords thrown together become a deeper connection
the kind that brings tears to the eyes
three rhyming words can bring the most savage of beasts to his knees
and though we try our hardest to understand the symphonies
we cannot.
We can dissect the words, the music,
say that this chord causes this reaction but
this is not chemical science.
There are no reactions that we can force
These are focused upon broken hearts of our own
whisking us into a supernatural beyond.
Tears and laughter tear us apart as easily as this song does.
Can’t you feel it?
Do not be so easily redefined by what those around you say.
Can’t you hear it?
The music has not stopped,
this silence you hear is it’s own song.
Listen.
Close your eyes and stop.
The dance floor will wait.
Hear the quiet melodies of your own life,
and forget the vibrant staccato notes of others.
The long vibrato of your shattering heart
as it falls on the floor.
The side splitting guitar solo of a scream each time he hurts you
each time you hurt yourself
your life is playing
stop for a second and listen to it
It won’t end.
You cannot pretend it is not there
because it will continue it’s monotonous path even as you ignore it
so listen.
Take control and let the lyrics flow
Sing out the passion, the anger, and the happiness.
The good times and the bad will all caress your inner thoughts
an orchestra of this simple anatomy.
Two verses, a chorus, and a bridge.
Remember it well.
This is your song.
